Friends, I'm having trouble loading Imagine objects from The Syndesis Avalon disk. I undrestand, as pg 1 of the associated book says, that I need a few Unix tools, which I just downloaded via IBMFF, and I appreciate that in the IBM world file names get truncated and that some objects take a double "unpack" to get back to normal. I get them out, but PC Imagine 3.2 complains For Examples of my problem, I tested a Mike/Impulse aircar and some Steve Worley objects, in hopes of eliminating possibility that orignal object was corrupt. Trying Objects/TDDD/ACES_HIGH.TAR.Z, I: 1) copy onto my PC directory as aces_hig.z. 2) un-z with WinZip creating file aces_hig 3) rename aces_hig as aces_hig.tar 4) un-tar using WinZip. Creates 5 files: aceshigh.iob and four brushes. (The fact that WinZip could identify five component files in the aces_hig.tar file gives me some confidence that WinZip is working.) 5) Enter PC Imagine Detail Editor and Load Object aceshigh.iob ERROR: BAD CHUNK SIZE This happens with most objects I've tried, including every one of the Steve Worley objects I've attempted. Trying aircar.tar.z, releases a read file crediting Mike and Impulse but the aircar.iob object does not load, rather ERROR: READ ERROR is reported. Have asked Mike at Impulse for input, but he had no idea. Analytically, I've considered the posibility of a CD-ROM media problem, but the disk I/O functions without complaint, and the problem is only visable after the un-z and un-tar. That would rule out the media, wouldn't it? Is there more I need to know about Tar and Z, is WinZip mangling the UnTar, or is there a faulty operator sitting at my keyboard?
