Finally got the Microforge 40Mb hard disk. It only took 3 days to get it directly from Microforge, and yes, the prices have come down. The cost – $1763 for the 40Mb Hard Disk, 130w power supply, case for the Hard Disk, single board adapter, and controller. This is the minimum necessary for operation. Also included is software for configuring the drive(s), formating, backup and restoration of files to floppy. The documentation is very poor. I finally finished getting all my files uploaded to the HD. This is GREAT <as I jump up and click my heels together>. It really speeds things up, and is a vast improvement. On the negative side <sigh>, it does seem to hog the whole bus (?) while accessing the HD. While using online! with a 1k capture buffer to file on the HD, I lost data coming in on the serial line. Also the fan for the power supply is loud. What is really needed is software for performing selective backup of the HD. Something that would backup all files created after a certain date, and allow individual files from that backup to be restored to the HD if needed. This could help minimize the headache of keeping the darn thing backed up. Does anyone have such a utility? or plan on developing one?
