The following is a copy (edited) of a letter sent to Verticom on March 10,
1988 by a friend, anybody have any similar experiences?? Dear Xxx, This is
a letter I have been putting off for much to long, and it's time for me to
pass on information which I think you need. A number of years ago when
Verticom was just starting (the M16/CD-1 combination was the newest,
hottest thing around), my partner and I purchased two of the first M16/CD-1
sold in this area, and I have been a vociferous Verticom advocate ever
since. That is until recently, I am worried for you guys. When Xxxxx asked
me to test the Twin-Focus driver for Autocad I was very pleased to be able
to help, and I took a lot of my time to test it. I spent long periods of
time talking to Xxxx and Xxxxx trying to explain to them what I thought the
product should be and how it would be used in Autocad. (By the way I never
even received so much as a thank you for taking the time to test and
evaluate your product.) When I tried to explain to one of your programmers
why I thought it would be unforgivable to take away the functional use of
Autocad's virtual screen memory, he said "why not? our's is better
anyway". I thought he was wrong at that time and now I am even more
convinced that a serious tactical error was made. Since you folks wanted
your' equipment returned I haven't been able to try the "real" version of
Twin Focus, however I have a number of friends and aquaintances who have it
and NOT ONE is using it. The inability to perform an Autocad view, pan or
zoom is just too much to give up. I also suggested that they look at
Intergraph's Micro-Station "view windows" for a really successful
implementation, that works on your hardware. I still haven't heard that
Verticom has the "AUI" drivers ready for the M16e and M256e boards, which
means that myself and a number of my friends are STILL without the ability
to take advantage of the Advanced User Interface capabilities of Release 9
