Well, 5th Edition still had lots and lots of assembly in 1974, and was
still being used on one of the undergraduate machines at Berkeley in 1978.
It had lots of very interesting quirks… such as a null character would
hang up on your login. My first encounter with Unix was in 1978, at the
University of Sydney.
