Yes, you were right. I went for the hardcard when the omti + 33 proved to
be unreliable for autobooting. The omti would return 'ready' before the
drive was, and cold autobooting never worked. Warm boots were usually ok.
I also got occassional read/write errors that I could never totally
eliminate. The seagate may be slow to get ready, but is very well behaved
so far otherwise.
The 2090a had problems because of the way it handled dma; this was supposed
to be both a hardware and a software problem. Khalid released a newer
driver that is said to reduce the trouble, but not eliminate it. The 2091
is supposed to be much better behaved. At any rate, the Kronos is NOT dma
(no matter what you think of dma) and cannot have this issue. It does use
up cpu time, though. It is also fast. Theoretically, a faster cpu will
cause it to run faster. I'm also told that on a very fast drive the Kronos
will be very fast. One way or another I'm quite satisfied with my Kronos
based hard card.
