John, There are notable acceptions and a periodical that is devoted to giving news and reviews should not leave out programs that are shareware/PD, especially when competeing against low priced commercial packages. The example of SID vs OPUS is a good one. In my case, I would have reported in the review that OPUS crashes frequently, repeated communication with the author and publishers have gotten little more than "gee wiz, too bad". However, the PD rival works flawlessly, has the same functionality, can be "registered" and is supported better for 1/3 the cost. I thin that is noteworthy and should be mentioned in a review of packages that have highquality PD counterparts that are in wide use. wmc
