Michael, Stiction only occurs when the drive is OFF. Randy stated he leaves his machine ON all the time. Stiction occurs when a HD drive stops, and parks the heads in an area of the disk not normally used (which is what most drives do now a days). The heads then "sink" into excess lubrication that has been "pushed" off the areas normally used for data storage. As the drive cools down, the lubrication becomes move viscous and prevents the drive motor from spinning the platter back up when power is reapplied [due to the drag caused by the heads "sunk" in the lubrication]. I'm not sure what Randy's problem is, but it's not stiction. Don
