I'm not saying that there isn't junk in the commercial domain. This thread
started out with my belief that it's not generally a good thing for a
magazine to compare commercial and PD software. That's the only
generalization I'll stand by. As for your junk software list, I detect a
few patterns, and maybe you know you won't buy from those developers or
vendors in the future, regardless of company name or publisher. 🙂 As for
the "good PD" list, I'd venture that Saxon's SaxonScript is far more
friendly than Post. I think a lot of people have tried to install and use
Post and failed because it's so darn PD and nerdy when it comes to arcane
documentation and feeping creaturisms. VD0: is essentially unsupported and
exists in a half-dozen hacked versions. Which one do you mean? And ConMan
is a spin-off / co-development of a commercial software company, right?
