I learned DTP with ProPage, and I like the degree of control it gives me,
although the program can be frustrating at times.
A while back I set up a system for a restaurant that would be using Microsoft
Publisher on a Windows based machine. It's a entry- to medium powered DTP
program.
Fiddling around with it, I was amazed at how simple it made many tasks . . .
like putting a graphic border around a text box, for instance, or getting the
prices on menu items to all line up at the end of a string of dots, like this:
Salmon . . . . . . . . . $ 14.95
Snapper . . . . . . . . . 7.95
etc. . . .
It lacks many of the "fine-tuning" controls that I take for granted in PPage,
but for simpler printing jobs I find myself reaching for that DOS PC . . .
I'd recommend that you pick up a copy and see ways of making 80% of the most
common DTP operations one-step instead of multi- step.
