Problem with TypeSmith 1.0: I tried converting some Compugraphic fonts to PostScript Type 1. They were the Letter Gothic font from Workbench 2.0, and the Compugraphic Garamond fonts from PageStream 2.0. The conversions worked, for the most part, but in every case characters with composite paths did not work. When I use the font in PageStream or ArtExpression, it displays correctly on the screen, but prints wrong. For instance, the letter "O" appears as a solid circle, with the hole missing. It looks like the two subpaths are not merged. In addition, all of the fonts on the AEbonus disk, that came with ArtExpression 1.03, have the same problem. I found out about changing path direction, and changed the characters that were not working. This took a long time. If this has to be done with every PostScript font, there should be a utility to do it automatically. Also, when I select a point in order to change the path, there is some risk of moving the point. This is annoying when all I want to do is select the path. In spite of all that, when I re-exported the PFB file, it still did not work. So it looks like TypeSmith is not capable of producing a filled composite path in PostScript Type 1 format. I was not anticipating such a restriction when I bought the program.
