To have answered in any other way might break a non-disclosure. As for the tight coupling of the issues, certainly this can be quite true. However, I am not totally convinced that X or Windows can't be done without DIG. Perhaps not everything can be implemented, but I am of the belief that a creative programmer can go a long way in implementing a solution. Even in the worse case of using a borderless gadgetless window to start with, you can get pretty far. Of course without the printer drivers, you are quite toast.
