Paul, The answer is right there in your message, where you say "both drives are terminated" Only the drive on the end of the cable should be terminated. When the termination is not right, operation can range from good to intermittent, to no operation at all, and yours is the classic case of being right on the edge, where small changes in cable length make a big difference. If you remove the termiinators from the card closest to the internal, it should work just fine. -larry
