Patrick, Ah – I suspect that what STNGfanfare is, is a "self running program" (or is that, "self loading program"?). At any rate, it is a combination program and data file (hence, the "self running" part). That is to say, it is a sound sample with its own player, wrapped into a single Tool object. Consequently, you can't "play" the file, since it isn't just a sound sample. That appears to borne out by the "file not IFF" response you got.
