Martin, well, now it's a "figure-of-8" ring, gloves, boots and a climbing harness (much more comfortable and safer). I don't think it's dangerous – tell your wife I said so <g> – and for the truly cautious you can use 2 ropes, 2 (or more) anchoring points, 2 carabiners at each point, 2 harnesses, 2 pairs of underwear etc <g,d&r>.
