ParNet
PI: How does this work if one machine is the host? If the 500 can access
the 1200 as though it (the 1200) was the host, does that mean they're both
like hosts, or are there differences?
The same ParNet software is run on both machines including the
parnet.device, netpnet-handler, mouse-handler, and scripts. But one
system is mounted as "NETPNET-SERVER UNIT 1", while the other is
"NETPNET-SERVER UNIT 0".
Each computer can access the other system's devices — as if the other
computer were an intelligent peripheral named "NET", with the other's
devices (RAM-disk, floppies, HD) being subdirectories of NET.

PI: Also, is the parallel cable just a regular bi-directional parallel
cable, or something proprietary?
Its not an off the shelf parallel cable. It is a custom cable, but not
proprietary. Most pins are pasted thru, with two of the lines bridged.
Also, the lines that are not suppose to be connected are removed.
Docs were included to create the cable, or convert a standard pre-made
parallel cable into the custom cable.

PI: I've got to get this, anyway – I could use my A500 again! But where
is it? I couldn't find it.
I got the software from my local Amiga dealer. Someone in their repair
shop made the cable for me.
