"chkdsk g:" and "chkdsk g: /f:0" produce the messages "cannot CHKDSK a network drive" and "Parameter format not correct – /f:0". To answer the original question: I use a spiffy little utility of 1984 vintage called TREEDIR (PD I think). Used with the /s option, it summarises the bytes in each subdirectory and gives you grand and sub totals, both of bytes and of space for 2k and 4k cluster sizes. For a utility so old (like DOS version 2) I am pleasantly surprised that it handles huge disk sizes with no problems. its 6k long, and I don't know where I got it. dw
