I had tried a borrowed Cyrix 486 module. I found that it was electrically
compatible with the 386SX bridge, but the physical size was a bit off. I don't
think it's anything some minor plastic filing can't take care of. Since it
wasn't mine, I didn't want to mess with it.
It seems there are a couple of components near the processor that get in the
way of the module. When I put it on, it did work though. I did get a norton
SI in the high 60's.
Cyrix explains in their manual that the speed increase is due to the 1K cache
built in the chip. If it's not enabled, there is essentially no speed
increase.
Anyway, for the $260, it's not a bad investment. I'm planning on getting one,
but first the 340 mB hard disk
