ACCESS TO COMPUSERVE FROM THE INTERNET AVAILABLE NOW
Leading Information Services Company Continues to
Pave the Information Highway
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 31, 1994 — CompuServe Incorporated,
the worldwide provider of online information services to
personal computer users, today announced that CompuServe
members can access the CompuServe Information Service
directly from the Internet using telnet protocol, meeting
the previously-announced timeframe.
Telnet access to CompuServe eliminates the need for
a separate modem connection and, for some members, the need
to dial long distance to access the service. To access
CompuServe, members simply telnet to CompuServe.com and
follow the prompts for baud rate, User ID and password.
CompuServe provides free, immediate online sign-up for non-
members accessing via telnet. Connect rates for accessing
CompuServe through telnet are the same as local dial-up
rates via the CompuServe network.
Currently, the service supports ASCII (text) mode
for telnet access. Enhanced future versions of the
CompuServe Information Manager (CIM) software will allow
CompuServe members who access via telnet to use CIM's full
range of graphical interface features.
Throughout the rest of 1994, CompuServe will
introduce additional Internet-related features, including
access to the popular Internet USENET Newsgroups, remote log-
in to Internet hosts and file transfer from Internet archive
sites.

the U.S. call 614/529-1349), or send electronic mail to
