#Smacker FLIC Compressor
The Smacker flic compressor is now shipping!! I'm letting everyone hear know

The Smacker Video And Animation Compressor is now available!
Smacker is a compressor for 8-bit video and animation data in the Autodesk FLIC
file format. It will compress most files to 1/4 to 1/8 of their original size.
Smacker compressed files can be played back "as-is" – there is no separate
decompression step. Smacker compressed files can be played back at up to 30
frames per second or faster without hardware assistance.
The Smacker compressor and playback utilities are 386 DOS extended
applications. The compressor requires 3-4 MB of RAM and the playback utility
needs about 1 MB of RAM. The playback utility supports 26 different SuperVGA
cards directly, in addition to all VESA compatible cards. Smacker supports
8-bit (256 color) graphics modes at 320×200, 640×480, 800×600, 1024×768, and
1280×1024.
Smacker has extensive CD-ROM support including read-speed simulation, and
multiple simultaneous I/O targets. You will be able to author CD-ROMs faster
than you ever have before.
Smacker also supports the ability to go back and touch-up flics that lose too
much information in the lossy compression stage. With this unique feature, you
can compress your flics, then go back and clean-up any areas that need it. You
can touch-up as much or as little as you decide – a frame, a series of frames,
an area of a frame, etc. You get the best of both worlds – high compression
and optimal quality where you need it.
Smacker is an excellent tool for people trying to:
1) Increase the resolution of their flics. Smacker can playback higher
resolutions than other players because the data is stored more compactly.
2) Playback their flics faster. Since there is much less data to read as your
flics is played back, Smacker can playback almost any flics faster than other
players.
3) Playback their flics predictably off CD-ROMS. Smacker supports three
different CD-ROM speeds, and will preload the correct amount of information
during playback to maintain the frame rate that you desire.
4) Lower distribution costs, or simply distribute more data. Smacker will
compress most flics down to 25% of the original size. This means you can
distribute fewer diskettes, or, more likely, you can distribute four times as
much data.
