Joe,
sure, it's the stockholders' decision whether they want to sell their
shares… Of cource you can't just buy a joint-stock company – you have to
make an offer to the shareholders to buy the shares of the company from
them. Now, if the management of C= had enough shares to provide control
over the company they could of course decide to sell those to another
company or whoever at an agreed price. Thus, the other party had
effectively "bought" the company…
