You cannot "set" much variables in a secondary shell (what you get when you "shell out" of 3DS or any other program). Regardless the amount of environment space you have set in CONFIG.SYS, the secondary shell's environment will only be as big as the size of the "used portion" of your master environment. You have two options. Set those variables before you run 3D Studio. If you cannot do that, set some dummy variables before you run 3D Studio, shell out to your batch file, clear those variables and then set your own. By setting dummy variables, you are causing the secondary shell to be as big as your master environment "plus" that garbage. When in the secondary shell, you can clear the dummies and use its space for something useful.
