Jim, IDE is a fairly new standard, so I'd suspect the Epson to be either MFM or RLL drives which many years ago one of the first Amiga harddrive controllers, ALF (= "Amiga Loads Faster"), well, controlled ;^) Back then the controller really had to do everything personally, like moving the head(s) to a certain track etc. while today this is usually done by the hard drive electronics themselves (IDE = "Intelligent Drive Electronics") I don't think any of today's controllers is able to cope with those any more… // Chris coming in from Germany \X/ on AutoPilot 1.071……….
