I think almost any recent partitioning software can read a drive's specs.
What company/brand did your friend buy? I bought from DMI, but I think that
TTR's actual drive is identical. I went with DMI because they offered me an
internal version when TTR didn't, and DMI (truthfully) claimed that their
unit didn't require a driver, while TTR did (I'm not sure why.. maybe to
make it easier to switch between 720K, 1.4MB and 20MB formats?). TTR also
offers MRBackup Professional and 'a bunch o' software goodies' on the
floptical that comes with the drive "free of charge". The two companies'
prices seemed about the same.
