#Installing 3.1 Roms
Help,
I have just received my 3.1 update(ROMs, Disks and manuals) for my A3000/25.
I have been installing ROM, RAM, Video cards, Drives, SCSI cards etc. for quite
a while now and looking at the instructions everything seemed very straight
forward. Did I get a surprise when I opened the machine and really looked at
where the ROMs were supposed to go. I have the correct sockets:

U181 |______________________|

U180 |______________________|
J180 ___ *
1 2 3
J181 ___ *
1 2 3
All this is fine except that the jumpers appear to be set for A2000 ROM
compatibility and in sockets U182 and U183 there are two sets of standoffs
atop which is a daughter board with two chips about the same size as the ROM
chips mounted to the under side of the board. This set up covers the U181
socket. Now there is enough room to take this board off install the 3.1 ROM
chips and then reinstall the daughter board. As the instructions I have did not
cover this I am a little leary of doing anything.
I have to my knowledge never had ROMS in this machine. It uses the
SuperKickStart from Disk even with my current 2.1 operating system. I am
reasonably sure of this since my fast ram is down about 512K from what I have
installed when my machine boots.
My best guess is that I am to move the jumpers for A3000 ROM compatibility and
install the new 3.1 ROMs in the appropriate sockets and I should remove the
daughter board.
I sure hope there is someone out there that has run into this before and can
guide me in the right direction since I would hate to toast $90 worth of ROMs
and not be able to use 3.1
Thanks in advance
Jeff
