That's interesting that you can run 3DS from Windows-95.
If I try to run it, I get the error:
Phar Lap err 74: Can't use -REALBREAK under this version of DPMI
I suspect, though that in running 3DS from Windows, you're losing some
resources (memory) that Windows continues to hold on to as opposed to
running it from pure DOS mode.

PS: if 3DS R5 is, in fact an NT program I wonder if it will run under
Windows-95.
