Photorealistic rendering requires much more than a program. It takes
talent. As with most anything, if you want to excel at it, you've got to
do it. Do it a lot. And talk to anyone else who does it.
As far as software goes, 3D Studio is my preferred choice. You can get
photoreal stills and great animations. I'm still soaking up what I can
about the modeler (as an old hand at AutoCAD). Do the tutorials; run
through exercises from third-party books; share your discoveries and
questions with those here.
From where I sit, you can do anything, if you apply your energy in the
proper direction.
