CIS PPP/AmiTCP setup
This is being sent with forced formatting. I hope this works!
——– This is a brief rundown of how I configured PPP1.3 and AmiTCP4.0 to
run on my system. I use it with DaFTP, AMosaic, Grapevine, Gopher, Archie, and
GUI-FTP all without any problems.
AmiTCP:db/interfaces should have this line added:
<<<<
ppp0 DEV=Devs:Networks/ppp.device UNIT=0 IPTYPE=33 NOARP P2P
>>>>
AmiTCP:db/resolv.conf should read:
<<<<<
; Name servers
NAMESERVER 149.174.64.41
; Domain names
DOMAIN compuserve.com
>>>>
My startnet script reads: (located in AmiTCP:bin)
<<<<<
AmiTCP:bin/online ppp0
AmiTCP:AmiTCP WaitForPort AMITCP
; Configure loop-back device
AmiTCP:bin/ifconfig lo0 localhost
; Configure ppp0
AmiTCP:bin/ifconfig ppp0 $ppp0IPLocal $ppp0IPRemote
; Add route to this host
AmiTCP:bin/route add $ppp0IPLocal localhost
; Add route to the default gateway
AmiTCP:bin/route add default $ppp0IPRemote
SetEnv HOSTNAME `AmiTCP:bin/hostname`
Assign >NIL: TCP:
EXISTS IF WARN
Mount TCP: FROM AmiTCP:devs/inet-mountlist
EndIF
; Start the internet `super server'
Run <NIL: >NIL: AmiTCP:bin/inetd
run >NIL: AmiTCP:bin/CLChatServer
Assign Inet: AmiTCP:
setenv SOCKETCONFIG "UID=100 GID=100 USER=71732.3311 DOMAIN=compuserve.com
UMASK=000" loadlib AmiTCP:libs/socket.library
>>>>
Note that the CLChatServer you would not normally include. It is an add-on
that allows you to run as a client/server for chatting. Also note that the
Inet: assign, the SOCKETCONFIG, and the socket.library are to make AS225R2 apps
runnable on AmiTCP 4.0 and require the socket.library v 1.2.
My ENVARC:SANA2/ppp0.config reads:
<<<<
dialer.device 0 57600 0.0.0.0 7WIRE LOG=40 REMOTEIP=149.174.64.25
>>>>
Note that I replaced serial.device with dialer.device. You could easily use
the PPP dial script as well. I happen to like the dialer.device for dial
control.
My ENVARC:dialer0.config reads:
<<<<<
# Most config commands are optional #
keywords are case-insensitive
# default: "serial.device"
