Well, while I wouldn't tell them to abandon mainframes by any measure, OS/2 is
pretty darn good. I only wish it was possible for it to offer more competition
to Windoze. And while they started the PC, many many other companies took
over–because people wanted them, foolishly or not. My impression is that
their clones are decent, and their portables are awesome. I wish they'd get in
the ring with some Pentium portables though, but I'm starting to wonder whether
that will happen, due to their liscensing deal with Intel.
But their biggest raison detre is, imho, the whole deal with Motorola and
Apple. I think they squandered their lead time squabbling, and it's too late,
but I still hold out hope.
