#Metaballs Question?

A quick question to the MetaMan.. 😉
If I have a big bodied creature, would it be better to make a "skin of spheres?
ie. to make my shape with a lot of little balls that together, make the shape
I'm trying to get, but these balls just "coat" the insisde of the creature's
skin, leaving the inside hollow?
I hope I'm making myself clear ( I haven't had much sleep in past few days, so
if this doesn't make sense, please let me know )
