We do a lot of work in Authorware; I have the following suggestions:
1) Use the default Windows 256-color palette, if possible: it's an incredibly
well-heeled palette, and is appropriate for most any purpose.
2) Use Photoshop to generate custom palettes: create a big RGB image and place
representative images from your different objects into it. Convert to indexed
color, and save that palette. (You'll have to run the results, such a GIF file,
through Animator Pro to save the palette for optimization in 3D Studio
renderings.)
