#Escom Wins
I guess everyone knows, Escom has won. The conflict with IBM that so many in
the forum seem to be worried about has been resolved. IBM was worried that
cross-licensing agreements would be observed.
The Escom numbers are a bit convoluted, but it goes like this. It is paying
$10 million for the core technology, up from original offer of $3.5 million. It
will pay $1 million for Philippine inventory, if the liquidators can deliver
it, which seems doubtful but possible. $500,000 for the U.K. subsidiary was
taken out of the deal. It already has paid $1.3 to $1.6 million for the
German trademark. That number varies according to how one translates the mark
to dollars and whether one includes the German tax on the deal, which was 15
percent.
