I'm certainly no expert on available CD-ROM drives, but I'll answer anyway with
that understanding.
With SCSI, I'd buy whatever I could afford, probably 2x. With PC card or EIDE,
I'd probably grab the best I could get for $200, a low-end 4x. If I used the
heck out of my CD-ROM and wanted to get a good brand, I'd get NEC SCSI. I
don't use the heck out of my CD-ROM, so I'd be at the bargain end.
