Actually I ended up pulling the cards after the 100 that were in 3DS ended up on every BBS in the world. If 3DS had a proprietary font format I'd gladly give them to Gary for the next release, but I just have way too much work in them to let a couple of people buy them and distribute them to the rest of the world. If you're going to be at Siggraph this year, you'll actually see some of my greatest works in some extremely interesting places. I had a few people who wanted them sooooo bad that they specifically wrote proprietary font formats to support them and simultaneously protect my investment. Considering how easy it is to support a proprietary format, ( a couple of lines of code), I have a feeling that alot more companies are going to move in that direction. Fonts for animation are actually at the other end of the spectrum from DTP fonts, totally different needs and subsequently different design specs. I've considered writing a nice routine to read proprietary formats and allow 3DS users to access them and bring them into 3DS as entities, kinda the best of both worlds. I don't have to worry about them showing up on a 6 year old's 286, and 3DS'ers get access to them for animation. I've just been way too busy to sit down and start trying to write it. Wouldn't it be great to type paragraphs of type in 3DS with perfect kerning, leading, etc. and then see it all appear on the screen? How about a really great bevelling tool specifically for type built in? You could actually see the bevels in real time and adjust them in a window before you created the text. Neat idea, don't you think?
