I've been using automated CIS readers on three different computers for several years now, and I've always had the feeling that I periodically miss messages by using RTN, even though I'm on virtually every day. FOr example, I'd read a message that sounded like a reply to a message I don't remember reading. Today I think I figured out what's been bugging me: Say there are 5 threads active in a forum (low number for simplicity). The highest message number when I enter the forum is 5000. Thread 1 is farily short, 2-5 are longer. The automated program reads through the threads in order. Now, suppose that while I'm reading thread 2 and 3, someone adds message 5001 to thread 1 and message 5002 to thread 5. THe message reader will capture message 5002 and leave the forum, setting my high message number to 5002. I now have missed message 5001, whatever it was. The question is, how likely is it that this will happen? Is there a time of day where it's less likely than others? Is there a way to prevent it? Has anyone noticed this before, or am I just weird? 8^) Thanks … Harry
