Mary: WAIT…… Don't go out and buy that ram card yet! For DataBase applications, it is critical that you be able to store all of your database on one disk (floppy or hard) and the Amiga floppy only holds about 840K of DataBase information. Before making any solid decision I would recommend the following: 1. Determine the current size of your DataBase and its future potential size. 2. Take this information to your dealer. 3. Have him/her calculate the amount of RAM and Disk storage needed now and in the future for various DataBase programs. 4. Select the DataBase program and hardware that suite your needs. Some DataBase programs are very memory intensive and require a lot of memory, others do not as they rely on the disk a lot. So the DBMS (Bata Base Management System) program you select will affect your choice of the required hardware. But under either memory orientated or disk oriented software, the following will apply: The file containing your database data must fit on one disk! For example if you store just name and address information, you will probably be pushing it to get 2000 entries on a floppy based system. Any additional information could well limit you to 1000 entries or less. A small 22 Meg hard drive would provide 44,000 and 22,000 entry capacity in the above cases. If you are unable to talk to some one who can help, call me, don't sell software, but we have and have used every database available for the Amiga. I can and will suggest the best one for your needs. We do, however, sell both RAM and Hard Drives, (but not directly to end users, you'll have to go to one of our dealers to buy) so I can suggest the best choice with total objectivity.
