I won't pretend to understand the coding involved, but dBASE III+ "copy
protection" consists of the first time user entering name etc, which then
shows up in the initial license screen, and is not readily removable. I'm
told that they pursue 'stray copies' rather zelously; if you GIVE it away,
you get charged list price for each copy; if you SELL it, you get charged
about 20 times that. I find this method (the parts of it I've seen in
practice) to be quite acceptable. In fact, it saved my *** once, as I
succeded in letting my typing get ahead of both the screen and common sense
in a series of delete operations.
