TSSnet provides both message- and stream-oriented data transfer. With
messages, programs send and receive complete packets of data. All other
transmission details are completed by TSSnet. With stream data transfer,
programs are passed information as soon as it is received from the other
network node, even if a packet is incomplete.
TSSnet can communicate through the serial port, over a modem or even
Ethernet, with boards from Commodore, ASDG and Hydra Systems. Access to
these devices is transparent to the network application. For example, an
application could be developed between two Amigas communicating over the
serial port. Without any changes, the application could run over Ethernet
or any device supported by TSSnet in the future.
The Amiga is an ideal network programming environment. Because of its true
pre-emptive multi-tasking, it is very easy to write network applications.
Users can run other Amiga software while TSSnet communications take place
in the background.
