Vicky: I've been poring over a slew of ads and reviews in Amiga magazines, trying to formulate some intelligent questions, so I don't walk into a store primed to buy whatever they're unloading that week. My area of interest is animation and titling, so the following questions are mostly computer-related. GRAPHICS: 1. What Amiga graphics software are you using? 2. Are you using it for station IDs, titling, animation? 3. What memory and resolution limitations have you encountered? 4. Can Amiga graphics be ported to higher-end boxes (e.g., Paintbox, Harry) for clean-up? 5. I don't want to lay Amiga graphics over video; I just want to get my anims on tape in the best possible shape. Do I need a genlock for this or will an encoder do? 6. Why do genlock prices vary so widely? What do bad ones lack & good ones have? 7. What Amiga boards must be added to support resolutions higher than 640×400 (e.g., 1280×800, 1280×400)? 8. What Amiga-ready monitors support resolutions higher than 640×400? 9. What other software & hardware (including any cards for Amiga's video slot) is needed to support resolutions higher than 640×400? 10. What set-up do you recommend for digitizing? MEMORY/CONFIGURATION: Innumerable ads hawk infinite hard drive/RAM expansion/accelerator card combinations. I'm confused. What is the optimum configuration for Desktop Video? What is a bare-bones configuration a video editor or video-graphics artist could live with? To be continued… Mark Segall
