Nothing lasts forever. Imagine how poor the Amiga (now about 7 years old)
would be if CBM had insisted on compatibility with the Vic20! When
currently available RISC based systems are pushing 50 MIPS, do you really
want a new line of CBM systems to be trapped in the 68000 world? If all
Amigas were 68040s, hooray – but they aren't. The future is going off in a
new direction. I hope (and expect) Commodore will follow – and lead as
well. Just so whatever they make can be programmed in assembler!
