That's rarely true. Yes, it sometimes happens that garage companies become Apples, except when the myth is being recounted, they always downplay that infusion of a quarter-million dollars venture capital that helped them get out of the garage. Microsoft grew on the turn of a single deal that took them out of the garage and into a "campus" in Washington. They bought an operating system from another company for $40,000 and turned it into millions from IBM. The reality of the Amiga market is that most of these companies are very, very small. Like most small start-ups, they die quickly. I think you could count on one hand the number of Amiga software companies that have more than fifteen employees. Sure, they turn out great products, but don't expect them to come up with an upgrade like Word 5.0 every six months.
