Helen,
If I'm not mistaken the Sony drive has a terminator on it. Look at the
back of the drive — there should be a set of switches. One of them is a
terminator. The terminator must be turned on on the last drive in the
chain — if you only have one drive, turn the terminator on. I believe the
switch has "terminator" written next to it — if not, the Sony manual
should indicate which one it is.
