#Hissing from my CD-ROM
I have an old Hitachi drive (actually an Amdek), which eventually I will
replace with a MPC compliant something or other.
It sat around for a few years until I got a fast enough PC that booted
through the MSCDEX stuff in less than a lifetime and now I use it for data
access of some CD-ROM based files and even though it is five years old it
works pretty well.
I noticed when I put an audio CD on it and play music (listening through
headphones), it works fine for around an hour and then increasing amounts
of hiss and pop start occuring.
I have the feeling that it needs repair of some sort and that the repair
would be more expensive than it is worth.
Any comments??
