Is anyone else having problems with a SONY 7205 CD-ROM drive when using Microsoft Bookshelf for Windows? My 7205 pauses when using the animation sequences in the Bookshelf Encyclopedia– the animation pauses and the human voices sound like they are stuttering. Microsoft tech support told me that it was because the 7205 doesn't meet the MPC requirement of 150 Kb/s at a 40 % duty cycle. SONY tech support won't comment and SONY hasn't answered my letter of 3/22/92. SONY tech support did tell me that there have been discussions of the possibility of upgrades but that no decision has been made. Both PC Magazine and PC WORLD have tested the 7205 and made no mention of this problem. I understand that the Bookshelf animations are one of the toughfest tests of MPC compliance. Could this problem be due to the 8 K cache of the 7205 instead of the MPC requirement for a 64 K cache? Incidently my NEC CDR 73M doesn't pause at all. Am I the only one with this problem? If not, then maybe we should approach SONY as a group. Help, Art
