Bill,
PMJI, but I just read your article on video equipment and liked it
very much. However, there was one point which should be addressed
regarding VDR's (video disk recorders?) costing from $40,000, unless
you were talking about re-recordable models, such as Pioneer offers.
Sony has a very popular model called a LVR3000 for about $15,000 and
Panasonic has a model for $12,000 – these are component recordable
videodisk units. Also, Sony makes a popular low-end BetacamSP deck,
the PVW2800, for around $16,000. With these kind of prices animators
can consider these viable alternatives to the y/c offerings (AG7750
and EVO-9650). Obviously they are a bit more money but not "from
$40,000" which would really make prospective animators discount the
whole possibility of that type of equipment.
Once again, congrats on a fine article and I certainly learnt a couple
of things, esp. regarding the origin of Betacam.
