20 million? Really? I had the impression that there were about 8 million
– hence the "half the installed base" part. I'm not absolutely sure where
I got the figure, but I think it's from BYTE. Maybe Jerry Pournelle's
column, or one of their graphs showing the different types of computers
owned, or something.
I hope you're wrong – if you're right (besides the fact that it's a scary
figure) the letter will be even more useless than it already is.
