I am not going to argue with your perspective – I haven't played the game. But
I'd like to share a small story.
Last year I was at a small conference where Bill Gates demo'd 7th
Guest and went on and on about the fine music and the motion graphics
(the scene he showed was in the main entry of the castle with the
chekerboard floor and the pictures on the wall). Gates was really
quite ecstatic because he felt this was the best he'd seen so far to
show what MPC could do.
When he sat down, he was followed by Robert Greenberg of R. Greenberg
Assocs, who do a lot of special effect and other film work. His
approximate quote "I don't understand why Bill was so excited, we've
working with moving pictures for 90 years!"
Computer people see these developments a lot like proud parents view
their children growing up. Every parent marvels at their kid taking
his first step, even though kids having been doing since the dawn of
kids. We are discovering fabulous things to do on computers, even
though they can be done in other ways as well. I hope we keep in
mind that the key reason for doing these new things is do something
unique, that we haven't been able to do any other way.
FWIW.
