Apple's "educational program" was one of the smartest moves they ever
made. A lot of people grew up with the Apple II being the only exposure to
a computer that they had, so when they were adults the blindly bought
Mac's, as Apple was "the company that made the computer they used in
school". The education market is hard to break into today, and there are
no short term profits to be had there, but in the long term it's still a
way to build a user base.
