DL> Where can you buy an Amiga 3000 with 16 meg RAM for $1500? Creative Computers is dumping the last of the Amiga 3000 with 5 megs and 105 meg hd for $1000. You only need to add 13 megs more. I upgraded an Amiga 3000 with just 2 megs of ram up to 16 megs for $575. So I think that I have numbers just about right on this one. There is one catch, though on the Creative deal. You have to buy the 1960 monitor along with the other stuff. That costs another $600. It is a very nice multisync monitor that takes VGA, RGB, and composite video inputs. It is very useful for video work because it can double as a vcr monitor or it can display your genlocked output. Toasters have not yet come down in price. But they are almost sure to in the next month as the Toaster 4000 hits the streets. The catch with using the original Toaster with the 3000 is that you have to drill a hole in the back of the A3000 case to make room for one of the BNC jacks. It is a minor alteration, but doing it voids the Commodore warranty. I am waiting for the price drop on the old Toaster and then I am going to take the plunge (or maybe hold out to see if Opal ever gets all their components to market). Yes, the DCTV will output something that "looks like" 24 bit animation in real time. It isn't as sharp as Targa output to Betacam, but it is amazingly good. You must see it to appreciate it. Compared to what .FLC and .FLI files look like, DCTV is light years ahead. If you want I can send you a tape when I get my RBG output converter. It should be here on Monday. My own position is a small startup video company in a very unsophisticated market (where they have the Toaster but nobody bothers to really learn how to use Lightwave).
