Hi Warren, I'm afraid that you have confused me with one of the very knowledgeable people that *I* am trying to divine information from <bg>! > i am looking for a cd-rom that can do all that is available today. i hear alot about the nec 84-1. is there more than one version of this drive and is there a difference between the 84-1 and 84? < I have found that the competition for fast and furious seems to be centered around the NEC, Texel and Toshiba. I don't know the difference between the NEC 84 and 84-1, but surely the people in the "What Should I Buy?" thread such as Samuel Feldman, Jack Chalker and Larry Land can give you extremely good advice. > I plan on using the pas scsi port to connect the drive, for now. zeos has an scsi-2 on board chip, which i may change to later, it it will imporve performance. any suggestions will be helpful. < Actually, I plan on following your thought, more or less, in that I will probably buy the PAS-16 for sound, joystick and initially SCSI, then move to a standalone SCSI-2 controller. Again, an excellent discussion on SCSI-2, especially as applicable to my EISA machine, is found in the "What Should I Buy?" thread. Good luck on your search – perhaps you should address your next query to "All" to get someone more knowledgeable than me <g>. Brian
