This is just anecdotal, but I have a Toshiba XM-3301B CDROM, plugged
into an IN-2000 SCSI board. There is also a Viper Tape drive plugged
in. Until yesterday, the addresses were (and worked) as follows:
0 – Hard disk (Maxtor) 1 – CDROM 6 – Tape 7 – SCSI controller
The day before yesterday, I received ROM upgrades for the IN-2000 (to
support Columbia's new driver for OS/2). After installing the new
ROMs, I began receiving a bootup nastygram regarding invalid hard
disk blocksizes, with a recommendation to "low level format the hard
disk." Then the system proceeded to come up and operate normally!
I called Always (IN-2000) support. They informed me that with the ROM
upgrade, I should move the address of the CDROM so it was not
adjacent to that of the hard disk (i.e., 1 and 0 respectively). I
changed the SCSI Id on the CDROM to 3, rebooted, and the problem went
away.
FWIW,
Don G.
